Hand-Beaded Necklace
This necklace was hand beaded by a Koryak woman. It took two months to complete it. The craftsmanship is extraordinary and this is a one of a kind item. We feel very strongly that purchasing items of this kind, supports not only the individuals' economic welfare, but also makes it possible to maintain cultural preservation of a long standing creative craftsmanship. Koryak Headband
About two summers ago, we visited Esso, in the middle of Kamchatka and had a chance to observe the local Evensk/Koryak dance performance. The costumes of the dancers were incredibly beautiful and I admired them specifically the intricate beadwork. The headband was worn by one of the dancers and was offered to me, as an example of the intricate beadwork represented in all items of clothing they wear.
